French Press

French Press

Full-immersion brew where coffee steeps in hot water and is separated by a metal mesh plunger. Heavier body, more sediment, more flavor.

Method
Immersion
Typical volume
240 ml
Caffeine
110 mg

Caffeine is a reference value for this drink and brew method, not a measurement of your cup.

French Press technique

  1. Use 30g of coffee at a coarse grind for a 500ml press.
  2. Pour 500g of water at 96°C and stir gently to wet all grounds.
  3. Place the lid on with the plunger up; steep for 4 minutes.
  4. Press the plunger down slowly and steadily - about 30 seconds.
  5. Decant immediately into a carafe to halt extraction.

French press makes a heavier-bodied cup because the metal mesh lets oils and fines through. Coarser grind keeps the sediment manageable.
